Greek Airports See 5.3% Increase In Passengers So Far In 2019

Passenger traffic in Greek airports grew by 5.3 per cent during the first half of 2019 (period between January and June), it was made public on Wednesday.

A total number of 25,531,312 passengers was recorded in the first half of this year, compared to 24,238,614 who passed through Greek airports in the corresponding period last year.

According to Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority, the number of flights amounted to 221,538 in the period from January-June 2019, of which 96,664 were domestic and 124,874 international. This represents an impressive increase of 5.6 percent over the same period last year.

In June alone, the numbers of passengers traveling through Greek airports amounted to 8,470,734, an increase of 4.8 percent compared to June of 2018, while the numbers of flights rose 4.1 percent, to 67,585.

The airports for the cities of Athens, Heraklion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki and Corfu were the busiest in the nation, while the airport of Ioannina recorded the largest percentage increase, showing a 28.8 percent jump in travelers over last year.
